Writing Assignment About Breaching Experiment (Coursework Sample) Content: Breaching Experiment Singing Loud in the GymNameInstitutionBreaching Experiment Singing Loud in the GymThe non-intrusive experiment I did was deciding to sing loud while making some exercises in the gym. I usually enjoy having headphones and my iPod when working in the gym, so this time I decided to sing loudly and observe people secretly to understand how people would behave or react towards such an obscene activity. At some point, I would break into a very loud noise for a short while depending on the level of excitement. Besides where I was practicing, there were four people and three female college mates and one aged male; hence it was easy watching them around. However, watching the two was appropriate since everyone there behaved in the same manner. Initially, there was little attention, and it appeared no one seemed to bother about what was going on. However, with increased intensity of the action, it appeared that everyone was getting surprised at the action as they all stared at me wondering whether I was right in my senses. The initial shock made me more composed and less bothered about their activity and continued to singing while working out in the gym. Surprisingly, however, no one made an approach to me although a good stare was the only obvious thing that took place throughout the activity duration and probably, some of them were getting annoyed. The social theory being exhibited in this experiment is a structural functionalism theory (Elsenbroich Gilbert, 2014). The theory explains that deviance is derived from the structural functionalism (Elsenbroich Gilbert, 2014). As in the case, it is functionally understood that one should behave appropriately in a given environment, for instance, I should have remained composed and avoided destructing the people at the gym (Elsenbroich Gilbert, 2014). The response exhibited by the participants in the environment also confirms a failure to abide by the structural functionality of the are a, hence deviant resulting to failure to co-exist within the group norm. Through my actions, it is observed that a distinction between the unacceptable and acceptable behavior is established, thereby drawing a line that demarcates my actions from the actions of the others working in the gym (Elsenbroich Gilbert, 2014). Overall, it is evident that there was a general imbalance irrespective of the fact that the population in the...
